Introduction to Scientific Writing

This course transfers core competencies in academic writing, information literacy, and research communication. Through structured sessions and iterative writing exercises, students learn how to:

  • Plan and conduct structured research
  • Identify and formulate research objectives and gaps
  • Composing well-structured academic texts such as theses, dissertations, and journal articles
  • Use academic databases, citation styles, and reference management software
  • Evaluate sources critically and communicate contributions effectively

Consideration is given to the appropriate and ethical use of AI-assisted tools, such as semantic search, summarization, and writing refinement aids. These are integrated with caution, helping students understand their role as augmentative instruments rather than generative substitutes. Emphasis is placed on transparency, attribution, and the importance of validation to ensure that scientific rigor is upheld in AI-augmented workflows. The course prepares students to navigate both the formal conventions of academic writing and the evolving digital landscape that increasingly shapes scholarly communication, while fostering student agency through iterative peer-reviewed feedback and reflective revision strategies.
